Farhana Khan, Senior Calibration Engineer/Quality Manager

Why did you become an engineer?
I’m not sure, but if anything, I don’t regret it.

What do you enjoy most about being an engineer?
To provide work that is performed ethically, accurately, and of high quality, while meeting or exceeding all applicable national and international standards.

What types of projects are you most interested in?
My background is in radio frequency metrology, and I have spent the past several years honing my skills as a calibration engineer and, more accurately, as a Metrologist thanks to my training and certification in South Africa.
I take pleasure in the process of measuring, analyzing data, and calculating the uncertainties associated with a measurement (Metrology, the science of measurement).

If you could describe engineers in one word, what would it be?
AWESOME.

What is one thing you would share for an aspiring engineer?

Despite the many obstacles I’ve faced as a woman in engineering, I encourage other young women who are considering a career in the field to keep going for it; you are just as welcome as anyone else.

Jim Barsaloux, Sales Engineer

Why did you become an engineer?
One reason I pursued a career in electrical engineering was to one day build my own high-quality car amplifier. My professional life has been shaped by the lessons I learned while trying to find that answer, which I obviously never found.

What do you enjoy most about being an engineer?
Being able to problem solve by critical thinking.

What types of projects are you most interested in?
Although I have a greater interest in woodworking and home improvement than in electricity, I am never one to refuse the opportunity to tackle a new electrical challenge.

If you could describe engineers in one word, what would it be?
Complex.

What is one thing you would share for an aspiring engineer?
Keep your options open and don’t specialize too much. Use this broad engineering education to launch a successful career.
