Blow Static Away | ESD Ionizers by Transforming Technologies
Perfect static control is impossible, but you can get very close with the right ionizer. Ionizing air blowers are the last line of defense against electrostatic discharge (ESD.) Transforming Technologies offers a full selection of ionizing air blowers for your workstation.
Why Ionizers?
You can’t totally remove all static insulators—some of them are the fixtures and tools that create your sensitive electronics. Some insulators are components of the electronics themselves. Most of these cannot be grounded. In these cases, ionizers can still protect your sensitive electronics from ESD.
How Ionizers Work
Ionizers flood the air with ions. As the ionized air flows over a surface, any static charge on that surface clings to the ions in the passing air, carrying the safely away from sensitive electronics. It’s an almost perfect static control solution. If you emit an even balance of positive and negative ions, your only limits are decay time and effective coverage area.
Understanding Decay and Coverage
Decay time is how quickly the ionizer defuses a static charge. Faster is better. Decay ratings also describe how much voltage is reduced and where the measurement is recorded, but the most rating is how fast.
Coverage area describes how far the ionizer spreads its flood of ions. Simple enough, but keep in mind that performance is better the closer you are to the ionizer. If you need a better idea of how close, check the distance on the decay time rating.
The AC Ionizer Advantage
Ionizers can be based on Direct Current (DC) or Alternating Current (AC).
DC ionizers are less expensive, which is their only advantage. The nature of DC electricity means each emitter can only emit positive or negative ions—not both. If an emitter fails, the DC ionizer no longer produces an even balance of ions, which can increase the rate of static buildup.
On an AC ionizer, each emitter produces an even amount of positive and negative ions as the electrical current itself alternates between positive and negative.
Scatter static into the wind
Ionizers from Transforming Technologies use AC technology to produce an inherently-balanced flow of positive and negative ions with a rapid charge decay rate.
